Spotting Different Types of CloudsCirrus: Usually the highest in the sky, forming streaks across the sky; sign of a change in weather is to come. Cirrocumulus: Tiny balls of icy clouds, look like the scales on a fish. Altocumulus: Medium-height clouds, look like flattened balls of cotton. Cumulonimbus: Towering clouds that give us thunderstorms and tornadoes Thunderhead: Mushroom shape clouds; marks the site of an intense thunderstorm Stratus: Thick layers; lay close to the ground, look like silver disks when the sun shines through them. Cumulus: Fluffy, easiest to spot, low-level clouds sometimes gives light showers. |
