Soaring with Science Goals

One of the goals of the MOSH team was to put the program more into the
hands of the students. Last year, museum professionals did all planning
and programming and the students were given some great hands-on learning
opportunities, but not input of the program.
This year we left the slate wide-open for the students to decide. We
gave them an explanation of the project, goals, a few dates and requirements
(such as the project should be a workbench for web-based science education).
We then took their suggestions and matched them up with our goals. The
team decided to make a Website useable for teachers, children, and parents
by offering a database of A to Z flight related topics and simple projects
that teachers could do in the classroom and children could do at home
with their parents.
After the direction of the project was determined, several important
points were set.
- The direction and execution of the entire endeavour would be driven
by the team itself, not MOSH staff.
- All important content on the Soaring with Science site would be generated
by the team.
- The A to Z of Flight would be
created and maintained entirely online as a free and public reference.
- The projects would be geared towards
elementary school and younger children (ie. within the grasp of an assisted
child to create, enjoy, and learn from).
- The 2003 International Public Science Day celebration would happen
on March 8th.
With these goals in mind, Soaring with Science was created. We hope you
enjoy and can help it grow by answering the question... what
is it?
