Energy in Motion - IPSD 2002 with the MOSH

Students working on their IPSD ProjectsThe most important part of any educational program are the students. Their responses drive the direction and flow of the lessons - they are the point, after all. The IPSD Programs section is a journal of how our students reacted to the programs described in the Do It Yourself area of the site. Each outreach (first, second, and third) and International Public Science Day itself link to pages devoted to sharing our subjective experiences with the IPSD program.

Introduction

The Museum of Science and History (MOSH) was fortunate to team up with Rufus Payne Elementary and AT&T Broadband for International Public Science Day 2002. To see the fruition of the project MOSH planned many science-oriented activities designed to spark and interest in Science and to have a little fun in the process.

Loosening up before the big presentations! The plan included three trips by MOSH educators to Rufus Payne to present lessons on energy based on Florida's Sunshine State Standards. Educators presented experiments, games, and discussions during their visits. The experiments gave students a chance to use high-tech science gadgets, which are not normally available in the normal classroom. This hands-on experience gave the students an excitement about science the students had not necessarily had before. Games put an element of fun into the experience and discussions provoked thought about the subject into the minds of the students. Journals were provided by MOSH to the students to put assignments from the lessons and special memories.
