the Museum of Science & History's Teen Intern Program may be the place for
you! As a teen intern at MOSH, you will receive training in one
of five fascinating job areas and also earn valuable experience that looks GREAT
on your resume. Plus you'll complete 100 work hours divided between the summer
and the school year! This page give you the basic information you need to

The application process involves
three important steps: - Personal Essay: Include a typed one-page
essay explaining why you would be a great intern at MOSH.
- Application Form:
Completely filled out along with signed parental consent form.
- 2 Letters of Recommendation:
One from an adult friend and one from a teacher.

FL 32207 About the ProgramThe Internship
program operates using a two-part method to complete your internship experience.
At the end of the program, interns complete a full 100 hours of service! Your
schedule will vary depending on the area in which you volunteer. - Part
one begins in the summer, with a minimum commitment of 75 hours.
- Part
two goes into the following school year with a miminum commitment of 25 hours.
Internship PositionsSound interesting so
far? Wait 'til you find out what internship positions are available to fit your
own interests... these positions include demonstrations, camps, visitor services,
natural sciences, and the Planetarium. - Demonstrations:
The Education Department needs interns to work with the public in an informal
setting, demonstrating mini programs for the physical science, life science, earth
science, and history programs. An ability to interact with the public in an entertaining
fashion is a huge plus. A one-hour museum orientation is necessary, in addition
to two days of training. Hours and schedules are variable.
- Camps:
In this internship position, you will be expected to assist educators with
classes and serve as a substitute educator when needed. The job includes reading
to children, assisting with crafts, maintaining classrooms, and assisting the
children at bathroom breaks and snack. An internship working in camps may require
offsite field trips. Pre-School Camp Assistants work with children agest
4-5 years old from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for each week assigned. Elementary
Camp Assistants work with children 5+ years from 8:30 to 3:30 p.m. for each
week assigned.
- Visitor Services:
Visitor services is the front line of customer service at MOSH. Interns collect
admission, operate cash registers, answer telephones, and general questions about
the Museum. Volunteers must be able to multi-task and enjoy working with people.
In addition, they must have a patient and pleasant personality. Four hours
a week are required on weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Natural
Sciences: The Natural Sciences Intern cares for the live animals that are
part of MOSH's live animal collection and exhibits. Natural Sciences' work is
99% heavy phisical labor, cage maintenance, and food preparation. You will also
have the opportunity to learn about the individual needs of each species in regards
to their dietary, medical, and environmental health needs. Animal contact is limited
until ability and interest is proven. Training is provided on the job. Research
and educational development are required. Hours and schedules are variable.
- Planetarium:
The Planetarium is seeking volunteers to assist with the department's activities.
These duties include ticket collection, ushering, presenting live astronomy demonstrations,
running a telescope, summer camp assistant, and program installation. Background
knowledge of astronomy and telescopes (or a strong desire to learn) are necessary.
A 4-hour training period per demonstration is required. All Planetarium interns
are required to help with Luna-See Day (July 17th, 2004). Other hours and schedules
are variable.
