Internship Positions

Sound interesting so far? Wait 'til you find out what internship positions are available to fit your own interests... these positions include demonstrations, camps, visitor services, natural sciences, and the Planetarium.

Demonstrations: The Education Department needs interns to work with the public in an informal setting, demonstrating mini programs for the physical science, life science, earth science, and history programs. An ability to interact with the public in an entertaining fashion is a huge plus. A one-hour museum orientation is necessary, in addition to two days of training. Hours and schedules are variable.

Camps: In this internship position, you will be expected to assist educators with classes and serve as a substitute educator when needed. The job includes reading to children, assisting with crafts, maintaining classrooms, and assisting the children at bathroom breaks and snack. An internship working in camps may require offsite field trips. Pre-School Camp Assistants work with children agest 4-5 years old from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for each week assigned. Elementary Camp Assistants work with children 5+ years from 8:30 to 3:30 p.m. for each week assigned.

Visitor Services: Visitor services is the front line of customer service at MOSH. Interns collect admission, operate cash registers, answer telephones, and general questions about the Museum. Volunteers must be able to multi-task and enjoy working with people. In addition, they must have a patient and pleasant personality. Four hours a week are required on weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Natural Sciences: The Natural Sciences Intern cares for the live animals that are part of MOSH's live animal collection and exhibits. Natural Sciences' work is 99% heavy phisical labor, cage maintenance, and food preparation. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the individual needs of each species in regards to their dietary, medical, and environmental health needs. Animal contact is limited until ability and interest is proven. Training is provided on the job. Research and educational development are required. Hours and schedules are variable.

Planetarium: The Planetarium is seeking volunteers to assist with the department's activities. These duties include ticket collection, ushering, presenting live astronomy demonstrations, running a telescope, summer camp assistant, and program installation. Background knowledge of astronomy and telescopes (or a strong desire to learn) are necessary. A 4-hour training period per demonstration is required. All Planetarium interns are required to help with Luna-See Day (July 17th, 2004). Other hours and schedules are variable.
